FAQS

What's your problem?
Crazy curls!
Q I have a constant battle with frizzy curls – nothing I do seems to work! How can I beat the frizz and get my curls looking glamorous?
Joanne, 44
A

To maximise curls, hair should be cut into long layers, which eliminates weight and makes coping with curls easier. When styling, apply curl control cream through the hair and, when possible, allow curls to dry naturally. Alternatively, dry hair using a diffuser, but avoid scrunching your hair with your fingers as this will make it go frizzy. Finish by working a few drops of serum through your curls to keep them smooth.

Blonde Ambition
Q I usually dye my hair dark red, but I’d love to go blonde. What’s the best way to do this?
Tracey, 35
A

Unfortunately red is one of the most stubborn colours to change, so you’ll need a number of salon visits to achieve your desired shade. The first visit will be a case of removing as much of the red as possible, sorting out your base to a cooler shade and introducing lights to set you on your way to being a blonde. From there on it would be a case of adding more lights and maintaining a good base colour. Never compromise on condition – a good home care regime is essential!

Make my blonde brighter!
Q My blonde hair never looks really shiny – how do I give it a high-gloss finish?
Jade, 26
A

Blonde hair doesn't reflect the light as effectively as darker shades, so it's more difficult to get a really glossy finish. That said, there are lots of ways to get your shade really shimmering. Start by using a shampoo and conditioner designed to enhance blonde hair – some of them deposit tiny amounts of colour, which will brighten your shade, making it look shinier. When blowdrying your hair, be sure to direct the heat of your hairdryer down the length of your hair to keep the cuticules smooth. This sleek surface will better reflect the light, increasing shine. To finish, try using a shine spray specifically designed to add gloss to blonde shades – your hair should be glossier than ever!

Will colouring make my hair less glossy?
Q I'm considering changing the shade of my brunette hair, but I'm worried that colour could damage my hair and cause it to loose it's natural shine. What do you suggest?
Lucy, 22
A

Colouring can damage the hair, but usually only if you're using harsh bleaching agents. If you're only changing your hue by a few shades, colouring might even increase shine! Ask your stylist for a semi-permanent tint which will last about six to eight weeks – this will increase the glossiness of your locks while also subtly changing your shade. If you're looking for a more permanent colour, just remember to regularly deep condition your hair to lock-in moisture and shine.

Why does shine spray leave my hair greasy?
Q Whenever I use shine spray on my fine hair it just looks limp and greasy – what should I do to get shine?
Emma, 17
A

It sounds like you're using too much product on your hair, so try spritzing just one or two mists of spray over your hair. Avoid using serum or straightening balm in your hair first as this could overload your hair. Also, remember to hold the can around 12 inches from your hair when spraying to ensure  light, even coverage.

What type of shine spray should I use?
Q I'm a bit confused by all the different types of shine spray out there – what should I go for?
Leah, 15
A

It's always a good bet to go for an aerosol spray as they distribute a fine mist of spray over your hair, giving even coverage. If you have blonde hair, try using one designed to boost blonde shades, as you're more likely to get a good shine. You don't necessarily need to spend a lot on a shine spray to get a good gloss – lots of stylists' brands offer great versions of the product.
