Wedding woes
Q I’m struggling to find the perfect style for my wedding – I’ve got a long face with a high forehead. Please help!
Carole, 32
A

For a classic updo, I suggest a roll shape with width at the sides. Try keeping a section out at the front so you can sweep it to one side to keep it looking young and fresh. If you prefer to wear your hair down, then I would go for waves. Try asking your stylist to slick one side of your hair back behind your ear and then curl the rest of your hair with tongs. Use a little volumising spray to hold and then brush through once cool.

Red return
Q I normally bleach my red hair, but after a bad reaction last time I’ve decided to go back to my natural colour. Should I go for a darker hue while I wait for my natural colour to grow?
Carly, 35
A

I would advise matching your colour to your own natural tone as going darker will only give you a different sort of root problem. However, you will need to have a good regrowth in order to allow your hairdresser to match your natural colour. Don't expect it to be perfect the first time, as unfortunately when covering bleach it won’t go back to natural straight away because you are still covering processed hair.

Fighting flicks
Q My short hair flicks out at the ends, however much I straighten it. I’m worried if I grow it long, it will be limp and lifeless. What should I do?
Zoe, 17
A

I would actually recommend growing your hair, as a little extra weight will help to control these flicks. Blowdrying is also key – apply a little of my Andrew Collinge No Kinks Salon Straightener (£4.29) to damp hair and then use a large round brush to style the underside of the ends. Always point the airflow straight down on top of the brush so that the hair is trained under.

Hair loss help
Q My hair has become very thin and my scalp is very noticeable through my hair. It is affecting my confidence and my lifestyle – is there anything I can do to improve this?
Joely, 26
A

You are not unusual – hair thinning in young women is sadly underestimated and can cause considerable anxiety. Make sure you wash your hair daily and that you have a healthy scalp, as a flaky scalp can cause hair loss. If you are still worried, I would recommend booking an appointment with your doctor so that you can have blood tests to determine the cause.

Cool colour choice
Q I’m off to university in a few weeks and I’d like to dye my light brown hair a colour that will make me stand out from the crowd! What should I go for?
Charlotte, 18
A

Colour is a great idea, but I think you should consider how much maintenance it will require. It can be costly to have a full head of permanent colour, especially a you're going to be a student! As your hair is light brown, perhaps try a bright semi-permanent colour that will wash out, or even a demi-permament shade that will gradually fade out. These will add vibrancy and tone to your natural colour and require minimum upkeep.

Frizz frenzy
Q I have a constant battle with frizz. How can I create soft waves without the flyaways?
Heather, 18
A

Whilst damp, split your hair into eight sections and smooth some Trevor Sorbie Professional Curl Cream (£4.99) onto each section. Next, wrap the hair around two fingers creating a pin curl and secure this onto the base section of your head with a grip. Repeat this for all eight sections and then dry with a diffuser. Once your hair is dry, tip your head upside down and then shake the waves through from the roots to reveal super-sexy waves.

Going gaga
Q I’d love to copy Lady Gaga’s platinum bob – I have dark-blonde hair at the moment so it would be quite a change. Would this look be hard to maintain?
Aimee, 24
A

Platinum blonde colour is the hardest shade for most people to maintain, as you need to have your roots regularly retouched to disguise new growth. However, if you're prepared to take on a high maintenance look, then Lady Gaga's cutting-edge style is a great place to start! Ask your stylist to recreate her sleek bob with a full, asymmetric fringe and an all-over platinum colour – a look which is set to be huge this season!
