1 Comb your hair thoroughly
Give your shampoo a helping hand by ridding your hair of as much dirt and product as possible by giving it a thorough comb through. Work carefully from roots to tips, making sure you don't tug at, or snag, the hair if you come across any knots and tangles.
2 Super-soak your hair
Before you add any shampoo to your hair it's important that you soak it properly. All wet shampoos need lots of water to lather and cleanse properly, so any areas that haven't been adequately soaked simply won't benefit from the shampoo's active ingredients.
3 The perfect application
Add a 10p to 50p sized blod of shampoo to your palm (depending on the length of your hair) and rub your hands together. Smooth your palms over the well-soaked hair, moving from the roots to the tips. Run your fingers under the lengths at the nape of the neck, then let the lather work down the lengths for even distribution.
4 Fingertip massage
When you're happy that the shampoo has been applied evenly, use just the tips of your fingers to massage the shampoo into your hair. Use circular motions starting from the front of the head, moving over the top and then down the sides until you reach the nape of the neck.
5 It's all in the rinse
When all the shampoo has been lathered properly, use luke-warm water to begin the rinse. If you're using a showerhead, work methodically around the head, making sure that the hair is totally free of shampoo lather.
6 Touchy-feely towel dry
Although not strictly part of the shampooing process, how you treat your hair directly after a good shampoo will radically affect the way your hair looks. Dab-dry your hair until you have removed all the excess moisture, then lightly rub it with a towel until it's damp, rather than soaking.
