Well, I finally have my apprentice!
The final took a long time to organise. There were three parts to the challenge and the first was about fashion. Jason Gardiner dressed two models in a 1950s outfit and Romy and Brad had to come up with a hairstyle to complement it. Think Mad Men.
The second challenge was working with wigs. It is important to be able to cut and style human hair wigs as we use them a lot for shows. The outfits were romantic, soft and floaty and I wanted to see styles to reflect that. The final challenge was for Romy and Brad to pick their own brief and stick to it. Romy chose the 80s and Brad chose a tribal theme. We were looking for avant-garde hairstyles so it needed lots of imagination. They also got to pick the clothes for their model and work with the makeup artist to create a whole style. They didn’t have long to create all three looks and even I would have been pushed to finish in that time frame. I wanted to put them under pressure to see how they handled it and they both did fantastically.
It was a really tough decision but in the end we decided that the winner should be Bradley Robinson from Hair on Harpers in Abersychan. I think Romy is a little superstar in the making but Brad was so consistent the whole way through the competition. I’m really happy and his tribal avant-garde was bang on! Congratulations Brad!
