The British Hairdressing Awards are without doubt the ‘Oscars’ of the hairdressing world so with HOB Salons announced as finalists in an incredible 5 categories, it was a really big night for us!

This year I was nominated for the British Hairdresser of the Year Award again, whilst my fellow team members Darren Bain and Sean Dawson were nominated for the London Hairdresser of the Year Award for the first time.

I worked with a polished short, edgy cut and contrasted this with an 80’s inspired textured style oozing curls and movement which reflected the photographic collection I entered to support my nomination. Admittedly I am quite the perfectionist and so spent far too much time on my models, leaving myself very little time to get myself suited and booted!

At 6pm I hurried downstairs to get ready for the on-stage walkthroughs. Then, with all 1,750 guests from the world of hairdressing, fashion and media ready and waiting, I, along with all the other British Hairdressing Awards finalists took to the stage and the night began! Nerves definitely starting to kick in now!!

I was in absolute shock to be crowned with the British Hairdresser of the Year award for the second consecutive year! As only the third hairdresser in the history of the awards to win this title two years in a row after Trevor Sorbie and Beverly C, I really couldn’t believe it!

I’m not quite sure how I got through my thank you speech as I was so emotional. To win it once is fantastic but to win it twice was even more special as it felt like a double seal of approval of my work and our work as a team. As you can imagine, there was big cause for celebration and after having pictures taken for the media, we partied well into the early hours!

With our awards already taking pride of place in our flagship salon in Camden and a week on from the awards, I still have to pinch myself but I know that it is down to the sheer hard work we put in as a group that helps to create this success and so I dedicate my award to my great business partners, my wonderful creative team and all my incredible staff who help to make HOB Salons what it is.
